Martin Hairer welcome to Cirm. Thank you for having accepted this interview. How do you feel about being here at CIRM? What do you think of this place? What is the importance of this type of centers for mathematicians? What made you choose math? We know your father is mathematician. That was perhaps affected your choice... Do you remember what was your first encounter with mathematics? Let's talk about your research, which areas of mathematics do you focus on? Could you describe your first « Eureka moment »? You are one of the 4 Fields Medallists from 2014. Could you talk about the result for which result you received this prestigious distinction? Could you tell us about you way of working, of thinking? Alone? In number? Besides being a mathematician, you are a computer programmer and a company director… You've developped Amadeus Software, two powerful wave and audio editors. According to you, which are the connections between maths and industry? Do you think mathematics have a role to play in the development of collaborations with industry?
